Sick Spirit

It’s been a long month. It started out great with some time in the studio, but I very soon after came down with congestion that has hung on for the rest of the month. I took three days off to try to heal when I almost lost my voice, and I finally got some decongestant to dry out my voice box enough to sing. Anyway, I’m not saying this to complain. I’m saying this to bring up the old quandary of whether we bring illness on ourselves. If I truly am spirit expressing myself through my body then why do I come down with illness? Is my spirit sick? Well, it might be. As much as I love this life, I often find myself kind of drifting in a haze of malaise. I have all the ways I usually break myself out of the haze - simple joys, reminders of beauty all around, and giving of myself to prime the pump of love. But they don’t always work. The duality of this life is a constant. I will always be in this body here, but I don’t have to be of this body. I’ll let you know if I ever feel like I’ve figured it all out. 😉

What have I been up to?

I had a busy week at the beginning of the month.

That Monday was a great day in the studio. We got another couple songs done for my old country album. We also got my new single finished - “Part of All.”

Friday was a wonderful night at Bistoro at Pueblo. We had lots of great folks and some wonderful requests.

Sunday was a new song called “I Wanna See the World Like God” at Cuchara Chapel to go along with Eileen‘s message. My voice was starting to go.

Sunday night was my online living-room concert, and we did a bunch off love songs and requests. My voice was really raw, which is why I took the next three days off.

Last Thursday my new single “Part of All” was released, and I announced it on Friday. It has been pretty well received so far, and I hope that it’s a message that will give folks love and support. I appreciate  you all.

What’s up this week?

Sunday 7:00-8:15 MST is my First-Sunday Online Living Room Concert, and I think I’ll do a few Irish tunes to get in the spirit for St. Patrick’s Day. Once Mardi Gras is over this week I’ll start celebrating my Irish heritage.

Speaking of that, it’s just the following week on the 14th when I’ll be playing an Irish concert at the Bell Tower in Florence along with some wonderful Celtic dancers. It will be a blast!

That’s it for this week. I hope you are well and happy. I know the cold and flu season  has touched a lot of folks this year. If I ever figure out how to be in spirit and not in body to avoid it I’ll let you know.

Best always,

Tom

I Have New Music Out Now!

I am happy to tell you that I have a new single called “Part of All” that’s available now or will be very soon on most streaming and digital download services like Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, Google Play Music, and Amazon Music. This is the first track from a new album to hopefully be released in 2020 or 2021. I’ve decided that it’s time in my life to contribute something spiritual and with a higher purpose that reflects my awakening understanding of the universe. I have been spending many years reading all kinds of texts on religion, spiritual awakening, and wisdom, and I’ve been writing songs for the last two years on different spiritual topics. Many of these I’ve performed at Cuchara Chapel to go along with the talks that Reverend Eileen Ramsey gives there. I have been told that this song is my signature song. I hope you find it uplifting and encouraging. It’s a simple recording with a simple message from the heart. Here’s a YouTube link if you want a quick link - https://youtu.be/tx6BD-f14I0.

Seasonal Changes

You’ve probably noticed that I haven’t written in several weeks.  That’s mostly because I haven’t had any public gigs to tell you about - I always book less gigs at this time of year so I can catch up a bit and plan for the new year.  (I also don’t like to drive on snowy and icy roads.)  But it makes for some interesting changes in life.  For one I have time to catch up on reading and projects I’ve been putting off.  It also gives me time for taxes and learning and writing new songs.  I’m not very good at slowing down though, and it can also bring on a little boredom (which can also lead to more creativity!)  I often wonder when I’ll slow down doing music, but I don’t think it’ll be anytime soon.  I still love playing too much.  I talked about doing some more online concerts, and I do want to do a few more this late winter and early spring in addition to my first-Sunday concerts.  I want to do some different themes for these like different writer’s songs or diverse genres.  I’ll let you know about those soon.  Each season brings its own changes that take some adjustment.  I don’t think I’ll ever be the person who has it all organized and nailed down.  I like that just fine!

What have I been to to?

It’s been a month since I last wrote, but a month ago I had a wonderful morning playing for Cuchara Chapel. I even wrote a song for the burning bowl ceremony - a traditional end-of-year chance to leave old things behind and start anew.

What am I up to this week?

Monday I’m in the studio finishing up a single and getting the final tracks on my old country album.  I love doing this work!

Friday 6-9 I’m back at Bistoro in Pueblo for a wonderful night of good friends, food, and music. This is such a special place with such a special vibe. Make a reservation and come out if you can.  719-696-9672

Sunday 10:30-11:30 I’m playing for Cuchara Chapel service.  I’ve been loving playing for the folks for this service.  Come on up if you’d like a little inspiration to start your week in a beautiful setting.

Sunday 7-8:15 MST is my First-Sunday Online Living Room Concert on Facebook Live.  I’m doing it on the second Sunday so I don’t go up against the Super Bowl this year.  I haven’t picked a theme for this yet, but I already have a couple requests.  I’ll be doing some favorites of my friend Blasa who recently passed as well.  I so enjoy this chance to play for friends all over the country.  Please tune in if you can - facebook.com/tom.munch.

That’s it for this week.  I hope your winter is going well and you are healthy and happy.

Best always,

Tom
